Sun koshi river rafting is one of the 10th classic and adventurous white water rafting in Nepal. This 9 days long fascinating river expedition will take you through the everyday exciting trip into the river encountering fairly relaxed class 3 rapids, providing you an excellent opportunity for developing your team work. The tributary of Sun Koshi are Rosi Khola, Junga Khola, Tamakoshi (Copper River), Dudh Koshi (Milk River), Rasuwa Khola. Tribenighat is the place from where the Arun and Tamur join the Sunkoshi to form the giant Saptakoshi, which flows through Mahabharat range onto the Gangetic plain. Sun Koshi River fluctuate its mood every now and then from calm to turbulent making rafting in it challenging and full of adventure sometimes encountering fairly relaxed class 3 rapids, and numerous (abundant) rapids such as Meat Grinder, Punch, and High Anxiety the next.

We start our rafting from Dolalghat which is 57km north east from Kathmandu valley which takes 3 hour of drive. Your excitement will go beyond limit as you start rafting in this moody river covering 210kms of wild stretches, flowing down through high rocky passages emerging from the mountains to the flat Gangetic plains of southern Nepal. You pass all the way through the beautiful mountain scenery, deserted banks, and beautiful fishing village of Kodaris' and the Chamera Bhir were you see hundreds of bats screaming and clinging to the walls of the cliffs, offering you rich variety of flora and fauna in the wild forests on the either side of the river. This trip will offer you some 250 different species of orchids to look for and many of the exotic birds like River chats, dippers, flycatcher, wall creepers, bulbuls, and fork tales around the basin as you pass through the heart of Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Sun Koshi River can be a classic river for the kayakers and rafters. This rafting trip takes you to the white temple of Barahchhatra - Hindu temple dedicated to 12 different Hindu Gods and Goddesses on the east bank and eventually ends in the lowland of Chatara. From Chatara you can drive to Birathnagar via Dharan which will take 1 and half hours of drive. From Birathnagar you can either fly back to Kathmandu within 35 minutes or you can further extend your journey visiting the places like Chitwan Lumbini and Janakpur on the way to Kathmandu travelling by bus. 

A pre-departure meeting to answer any questions, arrange timings for the departure and meet the team over a glass of rum (or two) is held the night before.

Day 1: From Kathmandu we drive to Dolalghat for three hours via bus, which is our rafting starting point. From here we raft up to short rafting camp in Tarang Gaon

Day 2:  From Tarang Gaon we proceed towards Dumja village rafting approx. 4 hours. As you drift away slowly gathering energy and slowly leaving the Langtang ranges behind you will encounter the very technical rapid called Khuei Bhai rapid, strewn with rocks and boulders, hence, considerable care is need. Sunkoshi is considered as a Holy river by the Nepalese Hindus, the river flows into the Holy Ganges in India. We set a Camp for the night near the Mahadev temple, reputed to be the first Shiva temple in Nepal.

Day 3: From Dumja village we raft towards Khunkot rafting approx. 6 hours. At  Khunkot we set a camp for the night.

Day 4:  We move from Khurkot to Likhu Khola rafting approx. 5 hours. Here you will get opportunity of good photo prospects and encounter exciting rapids in the afternoon

Day 5: We move from Likhu Khola to Harkapur village rafting approx. 6 hours. On the route we pass through deep gorges making some exciting rapids and enjoy some pleasant floats in the afternoon.  

Day 6: We move from Harkapur village to Rai Ghat rafting approx. 6 hours.  Today you will encounter with the most exciting and challenging rapid like 'Bridge rapids' and 'Krishna rapids' of this expedition. Mr. Mangal Gurung was the first rafter to successfully take rafts in 1979 and he has the distinction of being the 1st Nepali to raft the Sun Koshi hence, the rapid is named after him as 'MANGAL RAPID'.  From there floating through the Dudh Koshi, we hit the last rapid for the day, 'Roller Coaster' - a hair rising rapid.

Day 7: We move from Rai Ghat to Bander Ghat rafting approx. 6 hours. Here you need to hold tight  as you encounter the rapid with the greatest drop Huge 'holes', 'eddies' and churning 'stopper waves'  that demands team work and hard paddle.

Day 8: We move from Bander Ghat to Bonjur Ghat rafting aprox. 6 hours. We encounter the rapids again, emerging from the Mardheku gorge the river spreads wide.

Day 9: We move from Bonjur Ghat to Barahchhatra rafting aprox. 6 hours. Today rafting mixes fun filled rapids and calm undulating floats.

Day 10: Short rafting reaches out points Chatara. From Chatara you can drive to Birathnagar via Dharan which will take 1 and half hours of drive. From Birathnagar you can either fly back to Kathmandu within 35 minutes or you can further extend your journey visiting the places like Chitwan Lumbini and Janakpur on the way to Kathmandu travelling by bus.
