The Eastern region trek provides unique and remote trekking along the most rarely visited trails in Nepal. Eastern region trek is not very celebrated trek among the trekking regions in Nepal. Kanchenjunga 8598 m is the world’s third-highest mountain and lies at the region on the border of Nepal and Sikkim. Eastern region trek offers the most spectacular mountain view of the eastern mountains, Kumbakarna, Jannu Peak, Tent Peak, Givigela Chule, Chang Himal, Pathibhara, Olangchumgola (Newly opened), Pumori, Arun valley etc . The most popular trekking areas in the eastern region are the Kanchenjunga area, Milke Danda and Jaljale Himal. The eastern region like any other region offers an ample of opportunity for adventurous activities like climbing, tour, hiking, trekking, exploration and many others.
The eastern region trek starts from the places in Far East at Basantapur, Taplejung and Tumlingtar. You can either travel for 16 hours via bus from Kathmandu or take a 35 minute flight to Birathnagar airport from Kathmandu and from Birathnagar 20 minutes flight to tumlingtar. Most of the Eastern Region trek falls under the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and requires a permit fees for entry. Eastern region is inhibited by the ethnic group of peoples like Rai, Limbu, Tamang, Sherpa and others. Some of the places like Basantapur, Dhankuta, Hile, Illam, Khandbari and Bhojpur are very beautiful and clean too. Eastern region is also very famous for the tea farming in Nepal. The wide variation in the vegetation and climate of the region offers varieties of flora and fauna species. You will trek all the way through the picturesque hills and pristine rhododendron forest blossom.The best time to trek in the region is between September and May.
