The Everest region trek is the second most popular trekking destination in Nepal. Other than trekking the region also has gained popularity in other adventurous activities like mountaineering, peak climbing and expedition. The region is gaining popularity day by day despite of its poor accessibility. Everest region trek also called Khumbu region trek is not only famous for being home to world highest mountain peak Mt. Everest (8848m) but also for the rich Tibetan culture of the Sherpa people their age old monasteries and typical lifestyle.
For trekking through the Everest region one should either trek for several days or fly to rest airport of Lukla. Lukla airport is the smallest airport in the Nepal. from Lukla the trekkers has to travel through the Sherpa settlements like Phakding, Monjo, Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, Thame, Tyangboche, etc where you can experience their typical culture tradition, Ancient Tibetan trading style and lifestyle of these Tibetan like people. While trekking there is great risk of the acute mountain sickness (AMS) so one has to take day rest in many places like Namche bazaar, Pakding and other to acclimatize and explore the vicinity. Namche bazaar is also called the Gateway to Khumbu and also a Hub for the business in the region. Trekking trail is quiet exhausting and takes you all the way through the hills and dales crossing the suspension river bridges for several times, walking through the difficult trails ups and down the hill, through the pristine Rhododendron forest, sparse settlements, famous monasteries like Tengboche and many more. Everest region trek offers you the most spectacular mountain view of the majestic mountain peaks like Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kantega, Mt. Kwangde and the mighty Mt. Everest itself. The highest access point in the Everest region trek is Kala Pathar (5,545m) lying in higher altitude than Everest Base Camp (5,340m). Everest is not visible from the Everest Base Camp so most of the trekkers climb Kala Pathar to observe eye level view of the Everest and other mountains of the region.
